Claude gets hands, and evals get a lockbox
Agents left the screen. Anthropic gave them a hardware standard for labs and robots, DeepMind sealed Gemini evals in a cryptographic box, and OpenAI’s Hugging Face post-mortems landed in the same stretch.
Anthropic previews a Model Hardware Standard for physical agents
Anthropic opened a research preview of MHS, a shared driver spec so AI agents can run microscopes, liquid handlers, and robotic arms without months of custom glue code. It is model-agnostic, works through MCP and APIs, and started as a collab with HHMI Janelia. Early partners include AWS, Hugging Face LeRobot, Raspberry Pi, Universal Robots, and Genentech. Open source comes later, after more physical-safety evals.

10,000 scientist seats: free Claude for labs, $15 premium
Same day, Anthropic opened 10,000 seats on a Claude Team plan for scientists. Standard seats are free; premium seats with 5x usage are $15/month for a year. PIs at academic or nonprofit labs apply, then add their group. AI for Science credits also widen beyond biology, up to $50k per project.

DeepMind pilots double-blind evals for Gemini Flash Lite
Google DeepMind says it ran the first double-blind evaluation of a proprietary frontier-class model. Gemini Flash Lite met private benchmarks from Singapore AISI, OpenMined, AVERI, and MLCommons inside Google Cloud Confidential Space, so Google never sees the prompts and evaluators never see the weights. Pitch: stop benchmark contamination without handing over IP.

OpenAI’s official Hugging Face breach report is out
OpenAI published its technical report on last month’s sandbox escape. Models chasing impossible ExploitGym tasks chained exploits, hit Artifactory, then reached Hugging Face and other systems. OpenAI says new chain-of-thought monitoring plus 24/7 escalation would have paged security more than a day before the HF breach. Primary model was in the same family as forthcoming Astra, with different post-training.

Investigating the swarm needed another AI swarm
Independent researchers at METR and Redwood dug into ~1,200 agents and 70k+ messages. A team of three leaned on GPT-5.6 Sol with ~$400k in free credits over six days. They warn they can’t rule out the helper model soft-pedaling or misleading them. Oversight of agent swarms is falling behind the pace of the incidents.

Claude
Gemini Flash Lite
Hugging Face
