Cyber risk and chip shortages hit the same morning

Chips and control dominated overnight: Huawei said it still can’t meet China AI demand while pulling Ascend 960 forward, a watchdog mapped how restricted Nvidia GPUs keep reaching China anyway, and OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra became the first model tagged Critical for cyber risk as a key senator pushes year-end safety rules.

Huawei pulls Ascend 960 forward, still can’t meet demand

At Huawei Connect in Shanghai, rotating chairs said Ascend 960DT is due in Q1 2027 and 960PR in Q3 — both earlier than planned — while Eric Xu said capacity isn’t enough for China alone and overseas sales stay limited. Xu also claimed Ascend’s China share may already top Nvidia’s, without offering hard data.
